Why LEARNigeria

Nigeria has the largest human resource capital in Africa waiting to be developed. With an economy that is the largest in Africa, the potential of the country is limitless if our human resources are properly harnessed.

Harnessing this resource properly starts from a proper and functioning foundational education system. Unfortunately, that is not the case right now. According to UNICEF, one in every five of the world’s out-of-school children is in Nigeria. 10.5 million of the country’s children aged 5-14 years are not in school. Only 35.6 percent of children aged 36-59 months receive early childhood education.

For the children who are in school, our data shows that half of them could not read even after nine years of schooling.

However, we are changing this. As a result of our intervention through the LEARNigeria Remedial Programme, we have been able to half illiteracy in children. We achieved this feat in just 24 days.

The possibilities are limitless. This is why we do what we do. Through our assessments, we identify children who are not learning, and through our remedial programme, we ensure they learn. We are building our human resource capital, and enabling them to change the future one step at a time.
