Who we are

LEARNigeria, an acronym for Let’s Engage, Assess & Report Nigeria, is an innovative citizen-led household assessment of learning that aims to assess foundational literacy and numeracy competencies among children aged 5-15 years in Nigeria. LEARNigeria is designed to generate empirical data which can inform and inspire targeted interventions. It is a part of the global citizen-led assessment body, the PAL Network

Our goal

To use the citizen-led assessment model to strengthen citizen agency and policy advocacy in the education sector of Nigeria.

Our Reach

LEARNigeria aims to extend its reach to all states in Nigeria. During the pilot, LEARNigeria assessed children aged 5-15 years, in Ungogo and Ikorodu Local Governments, in Kano and Lagos State respectively. We then proceeded to assess over 49,000 children from 21,600 households in Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Kano, Lagos, Plateau and Taraba states.

In 2020, we conducted a pretest where we assessed 302 children across 6 local governments in Ekiti, Kaduna and Anambra states.
